Even after his tragic passing, the shoes of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant continue to be a major talking point. His contract with Nike expired and his wife Vanessa and the sneaker giant failed to agree on a new deal.
Of course, those who have followed Kobe throughout his career remember that he was originally under contract with Adidas.
His shoes during this time were memorable to say the least and definitely stood out from the pack as they were unlike anything else on the market at that time. And now fans would have the option to buy them again.
According to Brendan Dunne of the complex, Adidas plans to reissue two pairs of Kobe sneakers he wore during his early years:
Adidas plans to re-release two of the sneakers Kobe Bryant wore while under contract with the German sportswear brand in the late 1990s and early 2000s, sources familiar with the list told Complex. upcoming releases of the brand. In 2022, he will bring back the Kobe 1, his signature Adidas from 2001, and the EQT Elevation, a shoe he wore during his 1997 rookie season in the NBA.
The availability of the Kobe sneakers has recently come under scrutiny as many believe Nike hasn’t done enough to allow fans to purchase them after his unfortunate death. Bryant’s estate also hasn’t made a deal with Adidas, but the company will release the sneakers without using his name.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Adidas has done this with Kobe’s sneakers because even while still under contract with Nike, they re-released these shoes as Crazy 1 and Crazy 97 EQT, respectively, and this seems to be the case here too.
Adidas has not officially announced the launch of these sneakers and the company is expected to try to avoid any explicit mention of Bryant in the rollout of the shoes.
