Major League Baseball and Nike today announced the seven participating clubs in this year’s City Connect uniform program. The seven clubs announced today will join the inaugural seven clubs that participated in 2021, making a total of 14 clubs that will be sporting City Connect uniforms on the pitch by the end of the season.
Launched last season, the Nike MLB City Connect program was created to celebrate the connection between each Club and its city. This series of uniforms explores the personality, values and customs that make each community and its people unique. Nike and MLB clubs have partnered to design jerseys inspired by their cities to celebrate new baseball traditions and invite more fans into the game of baseball.
The second year of the Nike MLB City Connect program will highlight seven additional clubs, including: Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals. The Nike MLB City Connect Series uniforms will be unveiled through July.
Leading the 2022 City Connect series are the Washington Nationals, whose jersey pays homage to the majestic capital of the United States and the proud, diverse and creative people of all walks of life who call it home. Drawing inspiration from the annual spring bloom of cherry blossoms that abound around the Potomac Basin, a sign of the promise of new beginnings and the possibilities of a new season, the jersey features a charcoal base color, a floral print of cherry and a touch of pink on the edges. The “WSH” graphic on the front of the shirt reflects the power and strength of neoclassical architecture found throughout the district. On the left sleeve, the District of Columbia crest is a tribute not only to America’s first president, but to all Washingtonians past, present, and future.
“There’s nothing quite like the connection between baseball fans, their local teams and their hometowns – and the Nike MLB City Connect Series is an ongoing celebration of that relationship,” said Sonja Henning, vice president. of Nike’s North American league partnerships. “We’re thrilled to honor each club’s history while pushing the boundaries of what a baseball jersey can be. “The excitement our fans and players showed last year with every debut of City Connect is exactly what these uniforms are all about,” said MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden. “When we first partnered with Nike, the incredible energy we see with every uniform launch is exactly what we envisioned. Nike continues to raise the bar by working with our Clubs on the development of these unique designs, giving brings the story of each community to life. We can’t wait to see how these next seven uniforms will connect with our fans and generate excitement on the pitch this season.
