NBI seizes 31.5 million pesos worth of fake Nike products

The National Bureau of Investigation said on Sunday that officers from the NBI-Rizal District Office (NBI-RIZDO) seized counterfeit Nike products in the town of General Trias Extension Barangay H. Concepcion Cabanatuan, with an estimated street value at 31.5 million pesos.

NBI Officer in Charge Eric Distor said 20,914 pairs of counterfeit Nike slides/slippers and 42 pairs of Nike shoes with a total estimated value of P31,581,000.00 were seized on March 10, 2022 under of search warrants issued by RTC Manila for violation. of Republic Act 8293 otherwise known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

Charges for violation of section 155 (trademark infringement) in connection with section 170 of RA 8293 are being prepared against Martin Sy and other owners, officers, employees and/or occupants of the premises located in The area.

Meanwhile, the NBI announced the arrest of an individual by officers from the NBI-Ilocos Regional Office (NBI-IRO) in an entrapment operation in La Union for Cyber-Estafa.

Eric Distor, Director in Charge of the NBI, identified the subject as Shyna May Vergara.

Distor said the operation stemmed from a complaint filed by one of Vergara’s victims, alleging the subject tricked her into investing P5,000.00 for a payment of P9,000.00 every 22 days , with a single payment for each investment.

On February 24, 2022, the plaintiff met with Vergara and gave him P5,000.00 as an investment. The next day, the victim learned from his sister that Vergara is a fraud and that she was the victim of the suspect’s scheme.

After learning that several Complainants/Victims had already filed complaints with the NBI and other law enforcement agencies, the Complainant sought the assistance of the NBI-IRO.

Thus, a trapping operation has been planned to capture the culprit behind said illicit activities. As instructed by NBI-IRO, Complainant agreed to meet the subject at a fast food restaurant chain in Agoo, La Union.

On March 14, 2022, NBI-IRO agents traveled to the target meeting location and strategically positioned themselves in the area.

An hour later, Vergara arrived and sat down with the plaintiff.

After delivering the cash marked to Vergara by the complainant, NBI-IRO officers immediately approached the subject and announced her arrest. Officers were able to recover the marked money from the subject.

Vergara was immediately brought to the NBI-IRO office for standard booking procedures.

The suspect was brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Agoo, La Union for violation of article 315 of the CPR in relation to art. 6 of AR 10175.
