Sneaker collaborations are commonplace, and understandably so. Wearing a cute pair of kicks not only proclaims your love for an IP in style, but also brings another mark of joy.
And while there’s already a slew of official releases to go, that doesn’t mean the amateur scene is falling behind in terms of quality. For one, Singaporean Ng Poh Hian aka Bob is one of the world’s best sneaker customizers, and he’s taken a look at the cool and stylish pair of Nike Dunks based on the popular manga series became Initial D anime.
Based entirely on protagonist Takumi Fujiwara’s Toyota Sprinter, they feature a sufficiently understated look that would grab fans’ attention without alerting the everyday crowd. The color scheme has been nicely reproduced, taking the form of a white body accented with black, with a small orange label representing the indicators. On the midsole is a stamp of the license plate, which pays a nice little homage to the series.
The design was originally revealed to be concept art, but the overwhelming public reception prompted Bob to turn it into reality. The man has since posted a new message teasing a September 2022 release:
The local designer owns a brand called No-Brainer which specializes in customizing various sneaker designs like the Air Force 1, Dunks, Blazers, Converse All-Stars, and Vans sk8. Considering how customs the Initial D x Nike kicks are, it won’t be easy to get them – instead of buying them through StockX, interested parties will need to do so directly from Bob at very short notice, and for a a lot of money.
